HA6 – Task 1

Portfolio
I am currently in my first year of college and have so far already learnt so much about the games industry. I have been able to create quite a few pieces of work so far in software's such as illustrator, light-wave modeler, Photoshop and Game Maker.

These pieces of work were the first things I created using adobe illustrator and Photoshop. I was firstly tasked to create an avatar, which can be seen at the top right, which shows me. This was mainly used to practise and sharpen my skills with the software. I then gathered an image of Karl Pilkington and was then able to properly test my skills with colour and the pen tool. I drew around the various shades of light on his face and used the eye dropper tool to select the appropriate colour from the face, which would fill in the newly created shape. I repeated this process and all of the shapes fit together like a jigsaw to form Karls face.

This next image is from a longer project I worked on. I worked quite hard adding large amounts of detail, and added I use Photoshop and illustrator to make this piece. Mainly, I used the pen tool to draw various pieces.

The pieces of work above me demonstrate my skills with light wave modeller. I firstly practices by following tutorials to create a hammer, then a bat. I believe I learnt how to use this software quite quickly, and was able to produce some good results. The final image was of course the most complex and took a number of weeks to complete. I tried to use as many tools as possible to produce and refine this robot as best as I could, and I believe it worked quite well.

These final images above me convey pieces of work I made at home in my own time. I made these for fun as I find the Adobe Illustrator software quite fascinating. They depict the game series 'The Legend of Zelda' and I created them as I very much enjoy the series. The image showing Link (The boy in green) standing on the shore was quite a complex project and it is the longest project undergone by me so far in illustrator. I still have not quite completed it and it has been more than a month.

Below are some examples of my best audio work. The first demonstrates 7 tracks I have created in the Reaper software with a Sci-Fi theme. Underneath that is an atmospheric piece that would build tension within a game. The third piece is a GTA 5 Audio Cut Sequence Production. for this piece, I created a script and got with a group. I then asked them to become a character in the script and record their lines. with their lines and the reaper software, I was able to piece together the audio for a piece that could be in a cut-scene in GTA 5. The final piece below that are some more atmospheric pieces. The Graveyard example demostrates creepy tones whilst the intense chase is quite similar to the tension piece, but was designed for a retro game.

Above is a console I recently designed for an assignment. It is called "The Shadow" and its hardware is designed to be powerful, but not too costly. It has orange LED lights on the front, back and top, Blu ray disc slot, 4 USB ports, HDMI socket, 2 internal fans and a power socket.

Above is a console controller design I made for my console. As you can see, the controller is split down the middle, however this controller is unique and it has the ability to connect the two sides together to from a traditional two handed controller similar to the Xbox and PS4's. I was inspired to create a piece similar to the Wii remote and Nun chuck due to the Wiis success and the PS4. Internally, both halves of the controller have motion sensors, for any games which involve these controls and they connect together ( when split apart )  by using signals which also connect it to the console and inform the console of whether the controllers are together or apart. The controller also has 4 action buttons, 2 analogue sticks, 1 d-pad, 1 start and select button, 2 R + L bumpers and two triggers. I went for this design and features as I though that both the Wii and Xbox/PS4 had some great ideas, so I combined them into one special controller. This way, you have the freedom of two motion controls, and the traditional two handed controller all in one.
