Problem solving
I believe I am very good at problem solving. Through out this course so far, I have had quite a few problems with illustrator and modeler, but I have always been able to put the problem into perspective and develop new ideas to work around it or repair the error.
Tenacity
This year, I have been tasked to use a lot of new software. I have been able to quickly grasp these new software's and understand them in great detail quite quickly, and I am confident about using them
Efficiency
Deadlines are important in the world of work. I have always tried to ensure that I get my work done on time, and I have not gone over any deadlines on my assignments or come close to going over any yet, as I have found I am quite efficient with my work.
Teamwork
I have also had to work in a team. This area could do with a bit of improvement however as I held back a bit on conveying my ideas to the group. I worked in a team when a member from Sony came in to talk to us and asked us to develop ideas for a possible game to est if we could.
Self-presentation
I believe i am quite well presented as I ensure my clothes are always clean and I have a shower near enough every day.
Confidence
This area needs quite a bit of improvement. To fix it, I need to talk more and take part in conversations.
ICT
This area is one of my greatest strengths. I have spent quite a bit of time on PCs and feel I am very confident using them as well as being efficient at learning new software's and using the computer in general.
Communication
Communication needs a slight bit of improvement as I stated before that I tend to old back in a conversation. I need to express my opinions and ideas more.
Creativity
I believe that when I focus my mind, I can develop some quite creative ideas and concepts for models or level design etc
Innovation
Innovation is very important within the games industry. Many consumers are very interested when it comes to new and exciting ideas, and I could help this sector, given a team to cooperate ideas with.
Punctuality
My colleges punctuality is very high. I am never late, and have never shown up to high school or college late at all.
Public speaking
Another area to improve. This, I would imagine, be the hardest for most people as most do no like to speak in public. I am terrified at the idea, so I believe I will need to practice this and build confidence.
Literacy
My literacy skills are quite good. I gained a very high B grade in high school and was told I was only a few mark off an A. I have noticed that I can be quite creative and use many literacy skills (eg Metaphors, punctuation) when writing a story.
Commitment
One of my strongest skills and qualities is my commitment, moivation and determination. I am srongly determined to do well on this course as I would love a job within the games industry when I am older. I am motivated to do the best, as when I put my life into perspective, I would be very unhappy spending the rest of my life working behind a counter in a shop, for example, if I did terrible work, so I always ensure I do the best, and I have learnt that I just naturally become determined to complete projects. One thing I despise is starting something and not finishing it. This has occurred in my illustrator work.
Honesty
I am a very honest person. I tend not to lie as I genuinely feel bad about it afterwards, so I ensure that I tell the truth, even though there could be a worser outcome.
Trustworthiness
I am also a very trustworthy person. I always ensure I give back what I have borrowed, for example, as if someone has trusted me to look after something, I would be very disappointed and disgusted with myself if i did not give it back when it was required.
Reliability
I am also very reliable. I always plan ahead and ensure hat I can complete what is required within the deadlines. With my Unit 66 modeler work for example, I created a complex wild west themed robot in which I could see it would take a while to complete. I planned ahead and ensured that certain areas were complete each week. This makes me reliable as you know that I can get the work complete when, or before, it is needed.
Numeracy
My numeracy skills are quite strong. I felt that Science and mathematics were my strongest subjects in high school, which further supports why I feel I have good numeracy skills. I obtained an A in maths, A in Physics, A in Chemistry and B in Biology. If I could not become a games designer so whatever reason, my second line of choice would have been to become a Physicist as I quite enjoyed working with problems, sums and equations.
Personal Statement
I am currently studying games design at Eccles college and it is my first year. For the future, I would like to further study this course at either Salford university or Manchester. I would very much enjoy spending my working life inside the games industry as I have a large interest in games and the gaming world. I've spent a lot of time playing games, and I have noticed that as I have further understood how they work, the more I have noticed their incredible amounts of detail as well as their brilliant creative ideas and styles. If I got into the games industry, my top 3 preferred jobs - in no order - would be programmer, 3D modeler or level designer, as I very much enjoy learning about these areas and getting one would be my dream job. I would describe myself as a determined, very hard-working person. I enjoy games development work, and have worked very hard on my designs so far in college. I am always usually seen at the computer, further developing my work to create the best piece possible. Also, I have quite a lot of experience with computers as my father first introduced me to them many years ago. I have spent quite a lot of time on them and have developed vast amounts of ICT skills; in high school, I remember working a lot on my ICT work where I developed animations, presentations and even a website as I find such work, including games design of course, quite enjoyable.
I am more than happy to do such work in my own time too. Once I was taught how to use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, I went on to download the software on my home computer as I would very much like to learn more about them and create my own pieces of art. So far, I have managed to make quite a few pieces on my favorite game series, The Legend of Zelda. Some of these pieces of art can be seen below, however, the image above the rest displaying Link (The boy in green) standing on the shore, is still a work in progress. These were mainly created to sharpen my skills with the software and for enjoyment. Another major thing about me is that I really enjoy learning how to use new software's. On my current course, I have so far used illustrator, Photoshop, Light-wave modeler + layout, Unreal Development kit and game maker and have been fascinated by each one. Unfortunately, these software's request quite high prices to purchase, so I have only been able to gather a number of trials and demos from them which limit their uses, but nonetheless, I have still enjoyed using and grasping these software's.
