Task 5

Task 5 Trends Discuss the current market and industry trends within the industry.

Franchised IP
A franchised IP is where the licensor allows the licencee to use what the licensor has created, without fully owning it. For example, James Bond was first created as a novel by Ian Flemming. Then, in 1962 a film called 'Dr. No' was created which was the first James Bond film. It became increasingly popular and the series has become the second most highest grossing film series to date. Then in 1983 the first video game for James Bond was created and was developed by the Parker Brothers. It was released on the Atari 2600. The next game created was 'Golden eye' which was a big success and numerous games have been created since. James Bond is an example of a franchised ip because it was first developed as a novel by Ian Flemming, so it became Intellectual Property. Since then, companies have licensed the story and characters, from the novel, to create games and movies.

Serialised Original IP
A serilised original IP is one such as a game created which was inspired from other sources such as movies or even other games. It does not contain anything from these sources, it just uses things such as ideas. An example of an S.O. IP is The Legend of Zelda series. Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Zelda series,  was inspired to create this game because of his experiences exploring the world when he was a child. he would explore caves and forests which inspired his to create this type of game where you explore various different areas. He was also inspired to name one of the main characters, Zelda, after hearing that it was the name of an American novelists wife and thought it sounded happy and pleasant. Using these ideas, Shigeru created The Legend of Zelda. It was very successful and soon became an extremely popular series and has created 16 different games which are very well known. Popular titles include The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, TLoZ Wind Waker and TLoZ Majoras Mask.
